ASN has over 165 years’ experience in developing, designing, and manufacturing submarine cable systems, with more than 700,000 km of optical submarine systems deployed worldwide. It is the most experienced supplier of Arctic submarine cable installations. Leadrship Team

Ethan Berkowitz – President

Ethan brings decades of experience in telecommunications, infrastructure, and public leadership. He co-founded the company that developed the terrestrial fiber system from Fairbanks to Prudhoe Bay, advancing connectivity in Arctic Alaska.

With a background in renewable energy projects and extensive public service as Mayor of Anchorage and a legislator in the Alaska State House, he provides strategic leadership for FND. Berkowitz holds a J.D. from Hastings College of Law, an M.Phil. in Polar Studies from Cambridge University, and an A.B. from Harvard College.

 

Ik Icard - CTO

Ik brings over 35 years of experience in marine cable installation, project development, and regulatory compliance, playing a key role in advancing the Far North Digital (FND) and Far North Fiber (FNF) projects.

He has successfully led submarine and terrestrial fiber deployments across North America, Alaska, and international markets, including the Kodiak-Kenai submarine fiber project and the Fairbanks to Prudhoe Bay terrestrial network. His expertise in procurement, contract administration, and infrastructure development supports FNF’s strategic execution. Icard holds an MBA from the University of Washington.

Guy Houser - COO

Guy has 30 years of experience in engineering, system design, and large-scale infrastructure development, supporting the Far North Digital (FND) and Far North Fiber (FNF) projects.

He has led multiple subsea cable builds, including the Kodiak-Kenai submarine fiber project, and has extensive experience in multimillion-dollar system deployments, product development, and technology protection.

An inventor with eleven U.S. and multiple European patents, Houser holds a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Business Administration. His expertise in subsea infrastructure and project execution drives FNF’s innovation and global expansion.

Howard Trott

Howard Trott brings decades of expertise in telecommunications, infrastructure, and renewable energy to his role at Far North Digital (FND). As a founding member of the company that developed rural Alaskan fiber-optic projects, he has been instrumental in expanding connectivity in remote regions.

With over 30 years working alongside telecom pioneer Craig McCaw, Trott has led solar, aviation, and conservation initiatives and is actively engaged in large-scale energy storage projects in the Western U.S. His experience in green energy and sustainable infrastructure supports FNF’s development and long-term strategy.

Howard Kelsey

Howard Kelsey, M.Sc., is a cross-border executive with deep experience in sports, infrastructure, and international trade. He led top athletics programs in Canada, helped privatize Chivas Soccer Club in a $250M deal, and held leadership roles with Del Monte and Santa Anita Packers. He co-founded KitsFest, the Canada One Athletic Foundation, and advises ARES North America. A Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame inductee, he brings global business and community leadership to True North Global.
